ENTRARE FUORI, USCIRE DENTRO

Entrare Fuori, Uscire dentro (Entering Out, Going Out) is an exhibition proposed for the HangarBicocca Pirelli on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Franco Basaglia, an Italian psychiatrist and neurologist, famous for having contributed to revolutionizing mental hospital and mental health policies in Italy. The exhibition presents different areas based on his story and at the same time on the various themes that interfere with the events of his life. One of the most particular areas is “The cage”, which is inspired by the cages in which some patients of mental hospitals were locked up, with objects and photos taken from the now closed structures. The double room, on the other hand, which tries to highlight the change brought about by the opening of mental hospitals thanks to one of the reforms proposed by Basaglia. The exhibition closes with a space for the screening of archive material and, depending on the date, also by events in which experts in the sector intervene on the topic of mental health.
